Counselling and Psychotherapy are both types of talking therapies that can help people cope with their problems and boost mental health.
Talking therapies can help with many things including stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, problems with confidence or self-esteem, an eating disorder, phobia, addiction, trauma, abuse, relationship problems, health issues, grief, loss or bereavement.
Counselling tends to focus on helping a person to find solutions or to cope with short-term or current issues; whereas psychotherapy tends to be a more in-depth, longer-term process that focuses on a person's feelings and past events - often leading to growth.
Counselling and psychotherapy can both be benefical. You might decide to use counselling for a short term issue and then find that you need more time. Counselling will give you the space to think and talk about yourself knowing that the focus will be on you and I will support you in the process. Sometimes things might feel harder before they feel better because counselling can be hard work, but having a trusted companion on the journey can make that journey much more manageable.
